Blue Plaque for Sir Richard Wallace - 3 June 2009 |
It was a fine Summer evening in the new city of Lisburn, little passing traffic and the blackbirds song over the Park opposite when we all assembled to pay tribute to Sir Richard Wallace and unveil a plaque on the house he built in Castle Street. The event was part of the Richard Wallace Trust's programme of events including the launch of Wallace Walking Tail and booklet Sir Richard Wallace: the Lisburn Connection ...the story of Fountains, Fame & Fortune. Because of the fine weather the reception was held outside. After the plaque was unveiled the company retired to the house to hear Doreen Corcoran, Chair of the Ulster History Circle give an interesting and amusing account of the work of the Circle since its foundation over 25 years ago. This was followed by addresses from Anthea McWillaims and Linda Murray about the work of the Trust. The Circle is grateful to its sponsors; Lisburn City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund for their help in a very successful blue plaque event.
