It was a bright crisp morning in the Lower Falls when the Ulster History Circle unveiled the blue plaque in memory of, and appreciation for, the life and work of Gerard Dillon. In the street where he was born members of his family: neices Mary McKenna and Margaret Mulhearn, grand neices Ursula Dillon, Imelda and Orla Caddell, Patricia Boyle and grand nephew Patrick Dillon were joined by the artist T.P. Flanagan, MP Gerry Adams, Councillor Michael Browne, Councillor Tom Hartley and the present occupant of the Dillon family home, Mrs Margaret Morgan.
Many sentiments of appreciation were expressed and in particular T.P. Flanagan delivered a learned and affectionate address, placing Dillon in the pantheon of great European painters.
