Blue Plaque for Charles McKimm - 4 March 2008 |
On a fine, crisp February afternoon, in Botanic Gardens, Belfast, that was already beginning to show the signs of Spring, the Ulster History Circle, Belfast City Council amd members of the McKimm family gathered to honour the memory and achievements of their distinguished ancestor, Charles McKimm. The ceremony took place at the Tropical Ravine, still standing and functioning as originally intended, when it was opened, to McKimm's design, in the summer of 1889. The plaque was unveiled by McKimm's granddaughter, Mrs Edna Graham. Other members of the family were Jim and Jenny McBriar, John Graham, Robin and Margaret Magee and their son Christopher, Graham and Evelyn McKimm and their son Alistair, Mike McKimm and Amy Troost.
