Blue plaque for Norah McGuinness - 17 May 2011

Sean Nolan, Secretary of the Ulster History Circle welcomed the guests to the unveiling of the blue plaque to Norah McGuinness, born in the house behind him. He said that in recent years the Ulster History Circle had celebrated the achievements of a number of distinguished Ulster artists and was pleased to add the name of Norah McGuinness to the list, helping to keep alive the memory of people whose work continues to enrich the cultural life of the Province. He thanked Sam and Stella Burnside for organising the fund-raising event that had collected a substantial contribution to this plaque and that for Bishop George Berkeley, which had been unveiled earlier that day. He also thanked the Heritage Lottery Fund, who were unable to send a representative, for their continuing support.

Brian Kennedy spoke about McGuinness and her contemporaries and of the impact of her work in her time.

The plaque was unveiled by Mrs Walsh, the owner of the house.
