After a very wet morning the weather cleared to provide a pleasant atmosphere for the large gathering of people to enjoy the unveiling ceremony at Brown's former home.
Addressing the gathering Councillor John Montgomery, Mayor of North Down, referred to the long and continuing musical tradition of North Down and said how pleased the Council was to support the occasion. Professor Patrick Murphy, Committee member of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said the Fund was glad to be able to support heritage projects like the blue plaque scheme. Heritage was not just something that happend in the past; it was rooted in the present, which then became the past. Barry Douglas then spoke of the legacy of Godgrey Brown and unveiled the plaque to sustained applause.
Following the ceremony the owners of the property, Brian and Alison Acheson, who had kindly consented to the plaque being erected, provided refreshments. Afterwards, Wesley McCann, Chair of the Circle, gave a talk about Brown.
