Jonathan Swift would likely have met with many of the ancestors on current families of Kilroot parish on his perambulations around the parish (Swift was a great walker) according to local historian Ernie Scott who performed the unveiling of a Blue Plaque at Ballynure Old Church. Although he was only a short while in the parish he left a lasting impression and the local community was proud to honour him.

The event was sponsored by Newtownabbey Borough Council and the Mayor, Ted Turkington, was accompanied by other civic figures including the local MLA, Paul Girvan. After the unveiling there was a reception in the British Legion Club in Ballyclare. These photographs provide some views of the ceremony.
